Q: Why were no environmental data returned for the given address and date?

A: There are several potential reasons for missing values in the Envirocoder output:

• The geocoding service failed due to incorrect or unresolvable address information.
• Environmental variables were unavailable from the data provider, possibly due to system maintenance, service discontinuation, or insufficient data quality.
• The specified date was either unrecognized or outside the valid range of the available datasets (e.g., 1900-01-01).

Q: Why did the geocoding fail?

A: A geocoding failure could be ascribed to three main reasons:

• Incorrect address information

As of the current version (dated 16.04.2025) of Envirocoder, only addresses within Bavaria, Germany are supported for geocoding.

• Inherent limitations of OSM-Nominatim.

Nominatim is an open-source geocoding engine built on OpenStreetMap data. While its performance may not yet match that of commercial services (e.g., Google Maps or ArcGIS), it is actively maintained and continues to improve due to strong community support and frequent updates.
