Future: netCDF interface

Since my colleges from the (atmospheric) modelling community love netCDF, an interface to that format would be a great feature.

I'd expect this to require a considerable amount of work to implement, so it's more of a future development. But it might be good to keep in mind, to help build the necessary foundation.
